Lenovo thinkpad screen get dark or blank when it is upgraded to windows 10!! It’s happend to me. Any solution couldn’t fix the problem after a lot fo googling. I thought the laptop is too old to run windows 10. But my mind couldn’t be fully satisfied with thought because..
Laptop work for a while after finishing the installations and whole installation process was done graphically. Where is the problem then ? The wrong driver for the Graphics processor.
It’s work with the windows default driver what come with the installation media. It goes blank when windows get update.
I disabled windows update, rolled back the incompatible driver from device manager but windows get hardware driver update autometically and problem persist.
Curiously I entered in Bios to have a look if there is anything related with display settings and I found the solution there.
Select Graphics Device [Discreate Graphics]. Windows 10 need higher graphic processing power and Discrete Graphics mode gives maximum quality. So windows 10 can run on those old laptops.
OS Detection for Switchable Graphics [Disabled]. If this feature is disabled the operating system can’t switch the Graphics Device to save power by itself .
The laptop is working fine for browsing internet, word and excel after those reconfigurations.
